A2L Refrigerant laws in 2025

Here is information on up coming refrigerant changes for 2025 we think you should know.

important upcoming changes in the HVAC industry. Starting January 1, 2025, new federal regulations will require a switch from the current R-410A refrigerant to more eco-friendly alternatives, such as R-454B and R-32, which fall under the A2L refrigerant class.

What to Expect with A2L Refrigerants:

 1. Environmental Benefits: A2L refrigerants have a significantly lower Global Warming Potential (GWP), reducing their environmental impact and contributing to a more sustainable future.

 2. Flammability: A2L refrigerants are mildly flammable, which requires HVAC systems to include enhanced safety features, such as leak detectors, flame sensors and cut off switches, to ensure safe operation. While these refrigerants are carefully designed for safety, this new classification brings a slight increase in system flammability to be aware of.

 3. Cost Implications: Due to the added safety components, A2L-compatible systems will generally see a 15-25% increase in equipment costs. Additionally, as the availability of R-410A refrigerants diminishes, servicing older systems may also become more costly.

Manufacturers will stop manufacturing 410A equipment Dec 31, 2024. But will be able to sell out all their 410A equipment thru 1st Qtr 2025.

Due to this we will be taking an equipment deposit on all new install contracts to ensure you get the equipment you were quoted. Also as equipment sells out new contracts will have a clause " While supplies last"..

We’re here to help you transition smoothly. Our team is fully prepared to assist with upgrading systems, selecting compliant equipment, and answering any questions you may have about these new refrigerants and the required components.

If you or someone you care about is considering a new HVAC system or an upgrade, feel free to reach out for guidance. Preparing ahead can help minimize costs and ensure a smooth transition.

Thank you for trusting us with your HVAC needs.

We have attached a small information video we found to help explain.
